Tutorial: Getting Started with EcomBot

The essential steps to install, synchronize, and launch your AI chatbot successfully.

Welcome to this step-by-step guide. This tutorial is designed to walk you through the initial configuration of EcomBot so that your virtual sales agent is ready to generate revenue as quickly as possible.

The Interactive Onboarding Wizard (Guided)

As soon as you create your first project, EcomBot guides you through its brand-new Onboarding Wizard. No need to configure each tab manually; the wizard walks you through:

  1. Domain Setup: Simply enter the URL of your e-commerce store.
  2. CMS & Palette Detection: The AI scans your website in real time and automatically pre-detects your primary brand color.
  3. Installation & Connection (Magic Link): Download the WooCommerce plugin and connect your store in a single click using our secure automatic authentication protocol.
  4. Sync & AI-Generated Knowledge: The assistant synchronizes your product catalog in the background while instantly pre-populating your knowledge base by scanning your legal information pages (T&Cs, shipping, returns, contact pages...).
  5. Style & Shopping Assistant: Fine-tune your branding colors, play with the dynamic layout selector, and customize the visual theme by reviewing our detailed guide on Widget Styling.
  6. Live Sandbox Testing: Instantly test the widget's behavior in a secure test space before making it live for your visitors.

Once these guided steps are completed, you can further refine your project's configuration using the detailed guides below.

Step 1: Install the EcomBot Plugin

The first step is to connect your store to EcomBot's artificial intelligence. If you use WooCommerce, installation is a breeze.

  1. Download the official plugin from your EcomBot dashboard.
  2. Install it on your WordPress store via Plugins > Add New.
  3. Enter your Project ID and Secret Key.

Once the widget is correctly installed and detected on your site, the default installation instructions in your dashboard will be replaced by an interactive green dot confirming the successful status of the integration.

📝 Note: For more technical details, consult the detailed documentation on the WooCommerce Plugin.

Step 2: Synchronize the Catalog

Once the plugin is activated, EcomBot needs to "learn" the products you sell.

  • EcomBot will run an initial background synchronization to import your products, variations, and prices.
  • Make sure the operation was successful by checking your products page in the EcomBot admin area.

Step 3: Define the Knowledge Base

This is the most crucial step to prevent the bot from giving incorrect information (hallucinations). Before enabling it publicly, you must teach it your business rules.

  1. Go to the Knowledge Base tab in your EcomBot dashboard.
  2. Add entries for:
    • Your Return Policy (e.g., "Returns are free within 30 days").
    • Your Shipping Fees (e.g., "Free shipping on orders over €50").
    • The Contact details of your customer support.
  3. Configure the Persona Limits: tell it how to behave (e.g., "You must never grant a discount").

Step 4: Activate Proactive Assistance

Your bot is ready, but if it remains hidden, it won't generate sales. Activate Proactive Assistance (Exit-intent or inactivity timer) so the bot opens automatically if a visitor seems to hesitate.
